April Green, formerly April Tellez, is a native San Diegan with a passion for public relations, specifically in the arts and culture arena. April joined the San Diego Natural History Museum (The Nat) as public relations and social media manager in December 2013. In this role, she is directly responsible for ensuring the museum maintains a positive rapport with the public and media, while also curating content and developing strategic campaigns for the museum’s social media accounts. Additionally, April serves on the museum’s editorial committee monitoring all content drafted for the blog, website, and print and digital publications. She also assumes a leadership role in developing innovative marketing initiatives and assists the senior director of communications with the museum’s media buys.

In addition to her role at The Nat, April currently serves on the San Diego Museum Council’s board of directors as marketing chair. Here, she advises the council’s executive director and board leadership committee on marketing and PR strategies and supervises the marketing committee.

Prior to joining The Nat, April served as communication specialist for Websense, Inc. (now Forcepoint, LLC). Here she handled a variety of tasks, including social media management, KPI reporting, and media relations. Acting as the senior public relations manager’s right hand, she ensured the company received substantial media coverage, thus contributing to its position as a thought leader and innovator in the cybersecurity industry.

April has been active with PRSA SD/IC since 2017 and assumes the role of new pros and student outreach director on the board of directors effective January 2018.

April holds a bachelor’s degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations from San Diego State University’s School of Journalism and Media Studies, a program consistently proven to be one of the finest in the nation. April launched her own freelance PR firm, Top Shelf Communications, in 2011 and serves clients in various industries.
