Why PRSA? As a public relations veteran, being on the board of PRSA is a way for me to give back to the industry I love. I am especially thrilled to be on the professional development committee to help others keep learning and continue to grow in their careers.
Lauren Fimbres Wood is the director of strategic communications at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego. Prior to joining UC San Diego, Lauren was director of public relations at i.d.e.a., a San Diego-based creative marketing agency that integrates public relations, advertising and social media to generate impact and results for national clients. There, she oversaw the public relations team and managed accounts including The San Diego Museum of Art, Rubio’s Coastal Grill, Islands Restaurants, Seaport Village and Major League Baseball (2016 All-Star Game).
Previously, she spent eight years leading the PR division at TeamWorks Media in Chicago, where she developed and executed national public relations campaigns for Corona, Pacifico, St. Pauli Girl, Converse, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Levy Restaurants, and more. She has also managed PR for client activations at high-profile events including the Super Bowl, Kentucky Derby, U.S. Open and Grammy Awards. A Los Angeles-area native, Lauren graduated from UC San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Public Relations Society of America San Diego Chapter.
