Maria_McGregor_200x280Why PRSA? Maria is a San Diego native and has been involved with PRSA for more than ten years – dating back to the early 2000s when she was a member of PRSSA in Honolulu. She believes it is vital to belong to a professional development organization, to learn industry best practices and network among peers. PRSA offers all of this and more. Expanding involvement with the organization by serving on the San Diego/IC chapter’s board would allow her to give back to the local community of public relations professionals, influence camaraderie and help expand her leadership skills.

Maria McGregor is the corporate communications manager for Sempra Energy, where she serves as a company spokesperson, manages internal and external communications, oversees award submissions, and produces shareholders meeting videos.

Prior to this position, Maria was the enterprise communications specialist for the legal and compliance departments for Southern California Edison. Prior to that, she was the nuclear communications specialist at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), where she produced internal and external communications, redesigned the station’s newsletter and digital display templates, managed content on 32 digital displays, and served as the plant’s in-house photographer. In 2013, she represented SONGS in Washington D.C. as part of the North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) association to lobby for nuclear energy. It was at SONGS that she developed a passion for energy generation and the energy industry.

Previously, Maria worked in marketing and sales support management for Neopost USA at a local dealership in Poway, Calif., where she planned and produced a product symposium that resulted in $150,000 in sales.

Prior to that, she was a freelance contractor for two independent public relations professionals producing media relations programs.

From 2009 to 2010, she resided in Perth, Australia, and worked in the development and media department for an international non-profit organization, where she developed the organization’s first public relations plan and secured local media coverage.

From 2006 to 2009, she was an account executive for Becker Communications, a leading public relations agency in Honolulu, where she produced and executed public relations plans for various clients in industries such as airlines, education, gasoline marketers, luxury jewelry, music, non-profits, restaurants, retail, technology, and travel and tourism.
