Join PRSA SD/IC for its Summer Social by the Sea, an evening of seaside discovery, socializing and fun! Mix, mingle and learn about conservation alongside your colleagues, fellow chapter members, and PR pros from throughout the region at Birch Aquarium at Scripps.
Our Summer Social by the Sea starts at 6 p.m. with food, drinks, and our annual silent auction, which supports PRSA SD/IC scholarships for PR students and chapter programs. New this year is a speaker session with an emphasis on science and communications.

Kim McDonald, director of science communications, physical sciences at the UC San Diego. Kim oversees communications for the division of physical sciences, which includes the departments of chemistry, biochemistry, mathematics, and physics. He is highly skilled at translating complex subject matter into information relatable to the general public. He also oversees the university’s Research Communications Program, which helps guide scientists on how to communicate their research. Prior to joining UC San Diego, Kim was the science writer at the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Alexander “Sasha” Gershunov, research meteorologist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Sasha is a climate scientist that focuses on regional weather extremes and long-range climate. This includes expertise on heat waves, droughts, atmospheric rivers, extreme weather and climate impacts on public health. He also served as a science consultant to the curators of the Weather on Steroids: The Art of Climate Change Science, the art exhibition where science and data served as inspiration for artists, now on view at the San Diego Central Library.
Gary Robbins, science and technology reporter, San Diego Union-Tribune. Gary has covered the science and technology beat at the Union-Tribune since 2010, after spending 25 years as the science editor at the Orange County Register. He has also served as a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at MIT, and a science writer fellow at the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Massachusetts.

Payment can be made at or prior to the event by check, credit card (VISA, MasterCard and American Express) or by cash. Checks can also be mailed to PRSA SD/IC, P.O. Box 28512, San Diego, CA 92198-0512.
Since it is necessary to guarantee with our vendor ahead of time, once you RSVP we’re counting on your participation. Members and guests who RSVP are asked to pay even if you are not able to attend. The cancellation deadline is July 20 No refunds granted after July 20. No-shows will be billed.
