In October, I had the opportunity to be in Indianapolis when the National Chair presented the new strategic plan for PRSA. The plan focuses on you – the members – and how to meet all your needs, whether you are just starting out in your career or a new manager or running your own company. We have an enthusiastic board this year – people that are brimming with ideas on how to best serve you, members of the Chapter. As President, my goal is the same – how can we serve you? How can we make the Chapter, and PRSA as a whole, more valuable to you? What do you want to see happen this year?
To start the year, we have some great events that focus on two areas we have heard from members about: networking and media outreach. First, our opening mixer on January 24 is at Westroot, one of the hottest new taverns in San Diego. Join us to catch up with your industry colleagues and meet some new faces. Additionally, this location is central (shout out to all our North County members!), and we kept the price point low and affordable. And even better, our newest Chapter sponsor, PR Photo Group, will be giving away an $800 photography package for event, product or lifestyle photography to one lucky mixer attendee.
Next, on February 10, Michael Smart is coming back. After a highly successful workshop last year, we listened to you and are bringing him back for a new workshop at the University of San Diego to help you learn how to build better relationships with the media. If you weren’t able to attend in August, this is your chance. And if you did attend, thank you – you already know this will be worth your time and money. Tickets are going fast, so register today!
Stay tuned for more, as we look to bring you programming on social media, video, diversity and more throughout the year. As events come together, our goal is to let you know as early as possible, so you can plan to attend. If there are any other topics you want to see, let us know. Or if there is anything else you think we should consider doing, let me know. I want you to want to be a member of PRSA and our Chapter – cue Cheap Trick here – so all suggestions are welcome. And if you want to help us make this year successful, be a volunteer! I know there are many of you that I haven’t met, so I look forward to meeting you – come say hello when you see me! Here’s to 2017!
