We provide water, wastewater, recycled water and recreation.
Under General supervision, Incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of entry and professional level community relations, public affairs, and media relations activities that enhance the image of Padre Dam among customers and employees, in the community, with other agencies, the water and wastewater industries, elected officials and the media.
Assist in the development and implementation of less complex assigned public awareness, community outreach and internal communication activities.
Assist in organizing special events and activities.
Respond to inquiries from customers and the public about conservation & other communication topics.
Assist with website maintenance and development as well as District’s social media sites.
Assists in facilitating two-way communication with Padre Dam Stakeholders, employees and the media.
Assists in representing Padre Dam and responds to inquires as assigned.
Participates in emergency response when needed which includes reporting to the Emergency Operations Center if activated.
Promote and coordinate the San Diego County Water Authority’s regional water conservation programs to residential and commercial customers.
Complete primary and secondary market research.
Assist in processing of purchase orders and invoices for the communications department.
Maintain effective relationships with those encountered in the course of work, including the media.
Assist in coordinating speakers and tours of water facilities.
Maintain accurate files and records.
Assists with copywriting of outreach materials
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Knowledge, Skills, Training, Experience & Licensing:
Knowledge (position requirements at entry):Principles, practices and techniques for the design and implementation of public affairs.
Methods of writing, public presentation, business communications and research techniques
Skills (position requirements at entry):Ability to use initiative and independent judgment.
Ability to recognize and deal appropriately with complex and sensitive information.
Coordination and Collaboration with staff on assigned projects
Proficiency with computers, word processing, Excel, graphic design, and social media.
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and two years’ experience working in an office setting with considerable customer contact and public relations experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry):
Valid California Driver’s License.
Positions in this class typically require: sitting, standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
This is a part-time position, 28 hours per week with flexible hours, with schedule to be set at time of hire.
Rate of pay: $18.82 – $29.28/hour DOQ
