Southwest Strategies is seeking a full-time senior account executive to assist with community relations, media outreach and social media for the agency’s clients, including highly respected real estate development companies with pending projects in San Diego County. Applicants should be thoughtful, engaging, motivated, technologically savvy, and highly organized with a passion for building and maintaining strategic relationships with community members, elected officials, civic organizations and other stakeholders in an effort to support housing and development projects throughout Southern California. 

Southwest Strategies is a full-service public affairs, public outreach and strategic communications firm, specializing in coalition building, public outreach, government relations, media relations, multicultural outreach, crisis management and social media/digital advocacy. The firm provides comprehensive communications strategy and outreach support to public and private companies across a broad range of industries, including energy, transportation, water, retail and housing. Through the development and implementation of strategic programs, the company assists clients in building productive relationships with stakeholders, elected officials, public agencies, media and the community.

Job Description:

Assist with development and implementation of comprehensive strategic communications and community outreach programs for development and land use projects
Cultivate community support for projects through targeted outreach, canvassing, one-on-one meetings, group meetings and events 
Plan public meetings, open houses, workshops, supporter events, special events, briefings, news conferences and media briefings
Develop content for fact sheets, news releases, website, advertisements, presentations and other communications publicizing client’s activities or messaging
Coordinate with graphics and support personnel for production of collateral materials, advertisements and websites
Develop and run social media campaigns and track success
Provide insight and analysis on community to clients
Connect with influential media outlets and journalists to place stories about client initiatives
Interface and build relationships with elected officials, community leaders and media
Develop and maintain databases of resident profiles and identify key stakeholders, community leaders, supporters and activists
Provide excellent client service


3-4 Years previous Public Affairs, Public Relations or Community Relations experience required


Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Political Science, Public Affairs or Public Administration required


Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work a room with ease, approach strangers, make friends and leave a lasting impact
Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills
Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
Dynamic creative thinker
Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities
Confidence to take initiative and problem solve


Proven success in organizing coalitions and public support for projects, initiatives, elected officials or ballot measures
Experience working with neighborhood groups, elected officials and community organizations
Social media and digital advocacy expertise
Experience with key San Diego- and California-based media outlets
Understanding of San Diego political landscape
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint)
Familiarity with AP Style and standard rules of grammar
