Call for 2017 New Pros Committee Members

Want to get more involved in San Diego’s PR community? The Public Relations Society of America San Diego / Imperial Counties Chapter New Professionals welcome Chapter members with 1 to 5 years experience in the industry to apply for a position on the 2017 New Pros Committee.

The committee consists of seven members who coordinate and oversee the organization’s monthly events, alternating between social mixers and educational panels and media tours. They also manage and oversee the New Pros mentor program for the fall and spring seasons. For a full list of positions and descriptions, see below.

COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR

This individual manages email and online communications between the committee and its members, including creating and sending monthly event communications. The communications chair should have a strong understanding of and interest in social media because he or she manages the New Pros Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

BOARD LIAISON

This individual attends monthly PRSA board meetings and communicates activity updates to the board and the New Pros committee. The board liaison should be a good public speaker and be interested in working closely with the PRSA board. He or she is responsible for planning New Pros committee meetings on a regular basis to ensure strong communication.

EVENTS CO-CHAIR (2)

These two individuals plan and manage all New Pros events from concept to coordination to day-of management. These people must be detail-oriented, creative and good planners. Contacts in the restaurant industry are helpful when securing event partnerships and venues.

MENTOR PROGRAM CO-CHAIR (2)

These two individuals oversee the New Pros mentor program. The mentor program is usually three to six months long, and the two co-chairs should be good communicators and enjoy coordinating gatherings.

TREASURER

This individual manages the finances of the New Pros group, including collecting fees at each event and facilitating reimbursements. This person must be organized, a skilled money manager and must report regularly to the rest of the committee and to the chapter treasurer. It is vital that this person attends all events to support registration and check-in.

*** Please note that you must be a PRSA member to be eligible for a position on the New Pros committee. All New Pros committee members are responsible for brainstorming event ideas, assisting with planning and attending monthly events and programs. Events typically cost $8 to $10 to attend. The selected committee will serve a one-year term beginning in January 2017. The 2017 committee will be announced in December 2016. ***
