Southwest Strategies, one of California’s leading public affairs and public outreach firms with offices in San Diego, Sacramento and Fresno, is pleased to announce that it has added three new employees – Manager of Public Affairs, Kenneth Moore; Manager of Public Affairs, Melanie Wilson; and Account Executive, Alexis Lopez – to its growing team.
Moore is an accomplished public affairs and communications professional with expertise in media relations, community outreach and strategic planning. As a Manager of Public Affairs with Southwest Strategies, Moore oversees multi-faceted communications and media campaigns on behalf the firm’s clients, working on large residential and commercial development projects and helping lead the firm’s social media team.
Prior to joining Southwest Strategies, Moore worked as a Senior Associate at Hutchens PR, a San Diego-based strategic communications firm. Moore has extensive experience in the development and execution of comprehensive communications programs for high-profile land use, real estate, sustainability and renewable energy clients, primarily in Southern California.
Moore holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Managerial Organizational Communications and minor studies in Public Relations from Point Loma Nazarene University. He is actively involved with the San Diego/Imperial Chapter of Public Relations Society of America and is a member of the New Pros Committee.
Wilson joins Southwest Strategies with a strong background in government relations and community outreach. Prior to joining the team, Wilson was Land Use Advisor to Supervisor Bill Horn and Policy Advisor to Supervisor Ron Roberts. She worked on a range of issues from infrastructure, land use, water, energy, transportation and affordable housing.
Wilson is currently a Board Member and Sub Committee Chair of the San Diego Chamber Young Leaders Board. She is actively involved in the Lincoln Club of San Diego County, the California Women’s Leadership Association and the United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council. She also serves as a mentor for San Diego State University’s Aztec Mentor Program.
Wilson holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and undergraduate degrees in Economic and Political Science from San Diego State University. She is currently pursuing a Real Estate Finance, Investments and Development certificate through the Burnham Moores Center for Real Estate.
Finally, Lopez brings her expertise in politics, government relations, binational affairs and public outreach to her new role as an Account Executive. Prior to joining Southwest Strategies, Lopez worked at the Office of Mayor Kevin Faulconer, where she assisted with planning the 2017 State of the City Address, framing policies, preparing briefs and conducting high-level legislative research on federal and local issues. Additionally, Lopez has experience working at Immigration and Family Law firms where she aided clients going through challenging hardships in preparing their case documentation, as well as providing transcriptions and translations for Spanish-speaking clients.
Lopez graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Social Psychology from San Diego State University. She is a fluent native Spanish speaker and a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honors Society, and holds a certificate of professional achievement from Oxford University in Politics and International Relations.
