David Glanzer of Comic-Con Among Those Honored by PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties at 2024 Awards Event
More Than 40 local PR Pros Receive Awards at Edward L. Bernays Awards
(OCTOBER 19, 2024 – SAN DIEGO) – Comic-Con International’s Chief Communications and Strategy Officer David Glanzer was inducted into the Public Relations Society of America San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter Hall of Fame during the 2024 Edward L. Bernays Awards on October 19. The event, held at the Balboa Park Recital Hall, honored the region’s outstanding public relations professionals work in campaigns, strategies and tactics.
The spirit of the event honored the region’s title as the 2024 World Design Capital.
“In the year that our cross-border region earns the prestigious designation of World Design Capital for goal-oriented design thinking, it’s an outstanding joy to award the best PR strategists who make San Diego and Tijuana a smarter, better connected community,” said PRSA SD/IC Chapter President Arturo Garcia-Sierra.
The event featured a keynote speech from Jorge D’Garay, President of MXUS Public Relations, a bi-national firm serving clients in both the U.S. and Mexico. D’Garay was the 2022 Otto Bos Hall of Fame winner, and he’s known for building coalitions across diverse sectors.
A total of 37 Silver and Bronze Bernays Awards, along with “Best in Show” awards, were announced.
The chapter also celebrated its annual Special Awards winners.
The local PRSA chapter honored Comic-Con’s Glanzer into it’s Hall of Fame, honoring his dynamic career, serving as the voice and branding lead at the helm of Comic-Con’s brand. Known worldwide, and headquartered in San Diego, the pop-culture phenomenon, held at the San Diego Convention Center, shines a global spotlight to San Diego and generates a regional impact of more than $160 million, which includes both direct and indirect spending by visitors.
“I truly am honored and humbled to receive the Otto Bos Hall of Fame award from the PRSA SD/IC,” said Glanzer. “As PR professionals we are never the story, yet having your peers recognize your efforts is, well, just phenomenal. Words can’t express my surprise and gratitude.”
Other special award winners included:
- PR Team of the Year – (W)right On Communications
- PR Pro of the Year – Arika Daniels, founding partner and co-CEO of Scatena Daniels Communications
- Eva Irving Community Service Award – Denise Scatena, founding partner and co-CEO of Scatena Daniels Communications
- Student Awards – Modern Military Association of America – Serve with Pride, students from the School of Journalism and Media Studies at San Diego State University
The San Diego/Imperial Counties PRSA chapter is one of 100 across the United States. It was founded in San Diego in 1959 and later expanded to include Imperial County. The award entries were judged by the Minnesota Chapter of PRSA.
The awards are named after Edward L. Bernays referred to as the “father of public relations.” Entries for the Bernays Awards must meet the highest performance standards, and winning entries demonstrate creative vision and capture the best of our profession.
The Bernays include a Best of Show Award in both the Silver and Bronze categories.
